Furby has been important to me since the very year of 1998. Every Furby is a treasure.
Events in Furby History
Pre-History
1998: The first Furbys are obtained from McDonald's, Blue Furby and Green Furby/Periwinkle.
2001: The first ever official Furby census, documenting all Furbys and names, as well as other Furby-aligned creatures.
Beginnings of Great Things
2002: Vacation to Mainz, Germany. Three Furbys came home with us from Europe, and a large amount of Furby art was made in the "Furby Renaissance."
2003: Life Events cause Furby culture to be dead in the water for a little bit. However, later I got a spirograph notebook and made a ton of Furby drawings in it instead of anything geometric that the tools it came with suggested. Additionally, the Birthday Blessing rained many Furbys and the Double Barbie Cruise Ship.
2005: Furby Funnies, a series of Flash movies, is begun. The Emoto-Tronic Furby series is released later that year. Par for the course, my dad decorates the Christmas tree with Burger King '05 Furbys as a surprise.
Changes of Scenery
2006: The First Move. The theoretical point of no return for several lost Furbys.
2007: The First Fire. This occurred at my mom's house, where very few Furbys were kept. While no evidence is clear, two Furby keychains, Fever and Chill, were likely lost. (Just for the record, no people or animals were harmed.)
2006/07: Obtained the First Great Furby Dollhouse. An ornate 'build it yourself' dollhouse from my aunt and great grandma with many props where amazing stories were told. Furbifying the dollhouse may have been a bit sacreligious towards the original intentions - who expected a bunch of Furbys to live here?! Additionally, we gained the Vintage Tin Dollhouse as a side house. The houses were split by a daunting horizontal distance of 7 feet and by my bed. This sparked a civil war that got old really fast.
2007-2008: The making of many stop-motion and live-action Furby movies. Furbys are no longer allowed on the Christmas Tree, to my chagrin.
2009: The Bionicle Dinosaur Wars. Prince Furby defects to the Dinosaurs and constructs a mech suit, then comes to the dollhouse to enact his revenge.
Any Port in a Storm
2012: The Big Move Up North. The Furbys and the Dollhouse were separated. At my mom's house, the lovely Tissue Box City is made for McDonald's-sized Furbys. We then move to my mom's current house, with Furbys in tow.
2013: The New Furby Dollhouse is purchased. With little furniture, it was eclipsed by its predecessor, and didn't feel like a suitable replacement, but it's what I could get at the time.
2014: The Reconciliation. Furbys are introduced formally to my younger siblings and cousins who were finally old enough to appreciate them. And they love them.
2015: The Big Move Back Down South. All is restored. I also made some fairly plain Furby Vine videos.
2016: The New House. Then came Camp Furby: At my brief camp counselor job, I told amusing Furby tales to the kids in my group who were between 8 and 10. The stories entertained them despite some not even knowing what a Furby looked like. I consider this a high moment for my abliity to entertain bored kids. I hope they have fond memories of it.
2017: The Second Fire. No one was hurt and no Furbys were lost. Instead, several Furbys suffered smoke damage and a few were warped from heat. The original Furby Dollhouse, run down from toddler mishandling and careless hauling, was finally demolished.
Liberation and Reconciliation
2019-2020: Life in Japan as an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher). I acquire four Japanese McDonald's Furbys. I may have used Furby in my middle school curriculum and made a point and click game featuring them in PowerPoint. I'm a little embarrassed by showing my Furby-obsessed hand so quickly, but it entertained and might have given the kids a modicum of interest in English. Meanwhile, at home, the siblings construct Karen the Long Furby.
2020: Project Clean Furby begins during the COVID-19 pandemic. Smoke-damaged Furbys of all kinds begin to be cleaned with a little trial and error. No Furbys were harmed in the process. Mostly stripped screws and backwards eyes though. Don't ask about the stain on Bumblebuzz's butt.
2021: Project Toy Justice begins. Lost Furbys begin to be replaced one by one.
2023: I make this website to display my Furbys' story for all to hear.
